The term Bezel is used slightly differently with regards to watches and Gemstone jewellery, but refers to a thin piece of enclosing metal.
With regards to jewellery, a Bezel is used to secure a Gemstone to an item of jewellery. The term also refers to the sloping Facets between the girdle and the table of a brilliantly cut Gemstone.
In watch terms, the Bezel is the surface ring that surrounds the Crystal and holds it in place. Sports or Divers Watches often have a rotating Ratchet Bezel. If Rotating Bezels are bi-directional they can assist in calculations for elapsed times.
